Discounts

Friday, January 27, 2012 No comments

I worked on discounts this week! I felt like I needed to give first-time customers more incentive to try me out. There’s a discount for both authors and businesses. The discounts can be seen at the right-hand top of all Tomework pages. The banners on the Tomework website are clickable; they direct you to my Discounts page which explains in full detail the deals and more on why I’m offering them.

I hope they help dull the edge of hesitation that first timers have when thinking of trying out my services.

About Pricing

It’s taken all week due to sudden job requests, but I’ve reworked the pricing of Tomework. Not only are the prices lower (bonus for you guys and hopefully for me), but they also work differently now. Here are the changes.

For Businesses
I stuck with the standard per word pricing, but I lowered my rates. I hope to help more businesses out there get their website proofed by doing this.

For Authors
I’ve changed the pricing from per word, to per page. I did this because I think writers will find that easier to calculate the cost than getting an app out to count the words and figure out the total cost. The rate is lower than I had it and hopefully more manageable to figure out how much my services will cost you.

Change in both
Full payment up front is a hindering block for most people. It’s just too easy these days to get ripped off online. I’ve realized that and I believe I’ve come up with a solution. Instead of having my customers pay in full upfront, I’m going to require a 10% down of the total project price before I begin on the project. After I’ve finished the project, I’ll send your completed order back to you along with the final invoice requesting the remainder of the cost. That way, the risk is on me, not you.

That’s mainly what I worked on this week with Tomework. Like I’ve mentioned before, a business is a constantly evolving thing, especially in the beginning, so there will be more changes made in the following weeks (ones I think you’ll appreciate). Make sure to check back in next week!

About Paul Yoder

Me
There’s great change in my life right now. I’ve graduated with a Bachelor degree from Dixie State College, I’ve finished all my applications to various grad programs, Tomework was started up in November last year, and on top of all of this, Nikki (my wife for almost four years now) is carrying our first child. He’s due in April, and because of that, Nikki will be winding down at work. Change is good. It often moves us to better paths; but great change never ceases to make me nervous. We’re calling our little boy Cove—we’re both excited!

Family and Friends
I’m the tenth child in my family (that’s right, my parents had ten kids!) and because of that, family and friends have been abundant in my life. So much can be learned from the people around you. This is one attribute I strive to improve daily; to be a better listener, and to take the time to learn from those around me. This has made me a better editor and writer, and more accepted by those I work with.

Activities
One thing I don’t get to talk with people a lot about is the sports and activities I like to do. This is mainly because the sports I’m into aren’t all that popular. Sure people know about surfing or rock climbing, but very few actually go out and do those things. I used to live on the East coast, so surfing was a great deal more accessible to me then. Now that I live in Utah, I only occasionally get to ride Swordfish (pretty much the best shortboard ever created). Rock climbing became a great staple in my life after moving back to the Midwest. There are so many great lines to climb out here in southern Utah. Though, sadly, after a few close calls, Nikki and I have greatly scaled back on this pastime. We still go hiking about wherever we end up vacationing or visiting though.

Interests
Though my degree is in technical English, my true passion is for the creative side of English. I’ve been writing poems, short stories, novellas, and novels since I was a kid. I thought that one day, I might grow out of literature, but as I grew, my tastes and appreciation for story refined. I could not see myself doing anything else than working with words.

Education
I’ve already got a page on Tomework that highlights some of my achievements—check it out here. Those aren’t all of my accomplishments, just ones I thought relevant to put on Tomework. But it’s a pretty good glance at my happenings throughout the last few years of my life.

Ventures (Tomework!)
Tomework is coming along well. My greatest hope for this business is to work with people that like working with me and me them. If you think about it, most people spend more time with their coworkers and business associates than they do with their own family. I promise I’ll do my best to be helpful to you, easy to work with, and to be someone you enjoy working with.

Editing Tomework

If there’s one thing in life that I’ve learned, it’s that all things change—and need change.

Although I’ve officially launched Tomework.com back in November, I realize its content, functions, services, and layout will eventually change as I update and adapt to the business world of editing, proofreading, and writing.

It’s for that reason that I’ve decided to start a developer’s blog for Tomework. I want to keep my clients up-to-date with the various changes that inevitably will occur at Tomework, as well as explain why these changes are made.

It is sad to say, but in this cyber-driven world of ours, trust has all but vanished in the relationship of online providers and clients. For that reason, I hope that by occasionally sharing a little bit about me and who I am through this blog, that I can gain some trust from those who use my editing, proofreading, and writing services. I’m a guy trying to make a living by doing what I know something about. Even though I own and operate Tomework, I’m not Tomework.com. My name is Paul Yoder. I’m a husband that loves his wife more than anything, and a soon-to-be father to a son that someday is going to catch some waves with his old man on the east coast where his dad learned to surf. I’m a person, and the important thing is that I know that you are a person—not just another business or book title. I want to work with you because I know that we’re in this together. We’re people trying to make a living; and you know, it’s nice to work with people who treat each other like humans—people who have that paradigm.

I’ll also be posting occasional discounts through this blog for those who keep up with my posts here at Editing Tomework. Thanks for checking in and feel free to leave comments and questions for me below, or send me an E-mail if you've got a special English-oriented service you need done that's not listed on my services page at Tomework.
